Illegal vaping products apparently targeting children have been seized in a major Middlesbrough-wide crackdown.The six-week operation by Middlesbrough Council's Trading Standards team has seen thousands of potentially dangerous devices removed from sale.The vapes are typically sold in brightly coloured packaging and with flavours and names such as strawberry or banana milkshake, Unicorn Shake and Tiger Blood to appeal to children and young people.It is illegal to sell nicotine inhaling products and refills - popularly known as  e- cigarettes - to anyone under 18, and it is also illegal for anyone to purchase them on their behalf.

Now, they must follow the same federal sales restrictions and age requirements as tobacco products, the Associated Press reported. The new law "allows FDA to protect the public health from the harms of tobacco products, regardless of the source of nicotine," the FDA said in a statement Wednesday.These vaping companies must register with the FDA and submit their products for review within 30 days, the AP reported.The change doesn't ban these products outright, but brings them under regulatory oversight.

Today, the Honourable Mark Holland, Minister of Health, is announcing that Health Canada is introducing new measures for NRTs through a Ministerial Order to reduce the appeal of, access to, and use of these products by young people for recreational purposes, ensuring access is restricted to adults who use these products to help them quit smoking.
