Israel Might Keep the Highest Tax in the World on E-cigarettes
A committee of the Israeli Knesset (parliament) will decide soon whether to approve the huge tax on vaping products imposed last November by the government’s finance ministry. The levy is the highest vape tax in the world. The tax is apparently already in effect, but it must be approved retroactively by the Knesset finance committee, according to Israeli researcher Zvi Herzig. The committee can also modify the order, which could mean reducing the extreme tax rate of nearly $7 (US) per milliliter on e-liquid and more than $10 per pod or disposable device.
E-Cigarettes are Less Addictive than Tobacco Cigarettes
Over 70% of smokers surveyed in a recent University of London survey quit smoking using e-cigarettes, and 38% had not had a cigarette for more than a year. The study also found that electronic cigarettes were less addictive than tobacco cigarettes.Only 18% of users said cravings for e-cigarettes were as strong as for cigarettes, and vapers (e-cigarette users) also said that they were waiting longer before having their first puff of the day.

A European Commission public consultation on the legislative framework for tobacco products is underway and will accept responses until May 16. But it is the only tool European vapers and other nicotine product users have available to prevent the adoption of prohibitionist vaping laws.
Macau Will Ban Electronic Cigarette Soon
The Macau Legislative Assembly today approved the first draft of a bill that will, if passed, ban sales of all vaping products in the wealthy Chinese semi-autonomous region. The proposed law would prohibit manufacture, distribution, sale, import, export, and transport in and out of Macau.The Macau Executive Council announced in January that it planned to propose a sales ban this year. On May 27, the government presented its draft bill, which includes proposed fines of 4,000 Macanese pataca (MOP) (about $500 U.S.) for individual offenders, and fines from 20,000-200,000 MOP ($2,500-25,000) for businesses.The draft bill does not (yet) prohibit personal use or possession, but the ban on import and transport from China would make acquiring products impossible without breaking the law.
