NSW Health has seized more than $1 million worth of illegal e-cigarettes and liquids containing nicotine since January 2022. Since 1 October 2021, products containing nicotine are only available for people over the age of 18 when prescribed by a medical practitioner for smoking cessation purposes. These products are only available from an Australian pharmacy or via importation into Australia with a valid prescription. For all other retailers in NSW, the sale of e-cigarettes or e-liquids containing nicotine is illegal. This also includes online sales.

Three major British grocery chains have removed some Elf Bar disposable vapes from their shelves after the manufacturer admitted that products containing illegal features were distributed to some retailers. Sainsbury’s, Tesco and Morrisons stores have removed watermelon-flavored Elf Bar 600 devices from their stores, and Morrisons has removed all flavors of the 600 series, according to ITV News. The three retailers are among the largest British grocery chains.

Taiwan’s national legislature (Legislative Yuan) banned e-cigarettes yesterday, passing the third reading of a series of amendments to the Tobacco Hazards Prevention Act. The new laws were first proposed last year by the country’s cabinet (Executive Yuan).Vaping products, classified as “tobacco-like products,” will be strictly prohibited, including sale, manufacture, promotion, import, and even personal use. The amendments will take effect a month after their publication by the government.

Italy is adjusting its e-liquid tax for the fourth time in four years, and this time the changes will favor vaping consumers. The new rates will take effect April 1, following final passage by the Senate in late February.​The country has reduced the taxes on e-liquids to levels set in 2021 by repealing the scheduled increase that took effect in January 2022. The tax rate on e-liquids containing nicotine will decrease from €0.175 (U.S. equivalent: $0.19) per milliliter to €0.13, and the zero-nicotine e-liquid tax will fall from €0.13/mL to €0.08.There is constant uncertainty over vape tax rates in Italy, with the Parliament changing them seemingly at random in almost every new annual budget. Political leaders seem to have no sympathy for small businesses trying to plan for the future—or for consumers who simply want attractive products that help them avoid smoking.

On March 11, the Tobacco Monopoly Bureau issued the "Measures for the Administration of Electronic Cigarettes", and also issued the National Standard for Electronic Cigarettes (the second draft for comments) (hereinafter referred to as the "National Standard for Electronic Cigarettes"), which is in the "under review" state.

This research looked at vaping as a smoking cessation tool in Australian adult smokers. The results unsurprisingly found that E-Cigarettes may have benefits for public health.The study noted that the frequency of E-Cigarette use is likely an important factor for smoking cessation success. Those that were noted to vape daily were more likely to quit or reduce smoking cigarettes than Australian smokers who didn’t. Given Australia’s current stance on vaping, this could be quite problematic.
