New Zealand has unveiled new messures to help restrict vaping amongst young people.The measures range from limits on sales near schools to a ban on some disposable units, as it extends aggressive anti-smoking campaigns. The government says it is unlikely to follow Australia's vaping crackdown - at least this term. The Australian federal government has announced tough new measures in an effort to stop young people vaping. Health Minister Mark Butler said the bright colours, range of flavours, and accessibility had turned a generation of young people into nicotine addicts. "Vaping was sold to governments and to communities all around the world as a therapeutic product to help long term smokers quit. It was not sold as a recreational product, and in particular, not one for our kids. But that is what it's become: the biggest loophole, I think, in Australian healthcare history," Butler told the National Press Club. The Australian government will restrict flavours and colours, bring in "pharmaceutical-style" packaging, reduce the nicotine content, and halve the importation of non-prescription vapes.

Philip Morris International (PMI) announced that its new corporate headquarters will be located in the heart of Stamford, Connecticut, and will open in summer 2022. Belgium has become the EU first country to ban the sale of disposable vapes in an effort to stop young people from becoming addicted to nicotine and to protect the environment. The sale of disposable electronic cigarettes is banned in Belgium on health and environmental grounds from 1 January. A ban on outdoor smoking in Milan came into force on the same day, as EU countries discuss tighter controls on tobacco. Announcing the ban last year, Belgium’s health minister, Frank Vandenbroucke, described electronic cigarettes as an “extremely harmful” product that damages society and the environment. “Disposable e-cigarettes is a new product simply designed to attract new consumers,” he told the Associated Press. “E-cigarettes often contain nicotine. Nicotine makes you addicted to nicotine. Nicotine is bad for your health.”
